Making cycling easier
I want to ride my bicycle… So, today was the first time I cycled to work. We used to cycle in London and we have started to cycle a little in Berlin and a few times towards work so that we know the best route, but today was the first official “I’m cycling to work” day. B.Y.O.S (Bring your own SOFA!)
Today we got to experience the World Cup in a very novel way. FC Union Berlin have offered up their football stadium for the duration of the tournament and have set up a large screen for people to come along and watch the games together. Sounds normal enough right? Well, it gets better. Football fans can bring along their sofas and plonk them down on the football pitch so you can put your feet up up outdoors with thousands of like-minded crazy people and enjoy some football from the comfort of your own sofa. Happy Father's Day
Like Father – Like Daughter So, today is Father’s Day. As we live in different countries, we can’t hang out today BUT as soon as I heard he was going to be eating dimsum there was only one thing I would doing in Germany. We quickly looked online for the best dimsum in Berlin and went to Aroma Restaurant. The restaurant was good, better than average but not as good as the Royal China in London – I think that place is actually unbeatable though. It wasn't me…
It was the ladybird… So I’m really tired today. I didn’t sleep well and I had to work from 7am until 4pm. Then I ran home, had two ice creams, went to a friend’s birthday party which was full of cats and my allergies went crazy so I had to leave. Then I came home, had two more ice creams and now I don’t know what to write… So I am going to tell you about this little cutie. Gimme a Moonie… Well, we just went for a stroll to take a photo of the moon. However it’s nowhere to be seen yet. Very annoying, as it’s a special moon tonight. It’s a full moon on Friday 13th! The next time this happens will be in 2049 – so get out there and have a look! And if you can’t see it, then give the world a little moonie instead 😉 If you are watching the football – I hope you are enjoying it. Three lions on a shirt… So, today the World Cup finally starts. Many people ask me who I will be supporting – England? Germany? Japan? Ghana? Just so that you all know and to make it official: My phone’s ringtone is the themesong to MOTD (Match Of The Day). I have always supported England and always will – in the Olympics it will always be Great Britain. We are going to be watching England win match after match until we are once again named champions! Takeaway Deliveries in Berlin
There are always evenings when you are home, the fridge is looking shockingly empty, it’s late and you just don’t have the energy to rustle up some food. No city would be complete without a wealth of takeaway options and thankfully, Berlin is no exception. We very rarely order a takeaway here at L&A HQ as we both really enjoy cooking, but there have been a couple of occasions when we caved, I’ll have to admit! Homemade Ice Lollies
Apparently they are called lolly ices in Liverpool… they do everything backwards it seems… I have been eating a LOT of ice cream. In my defence, it is really hot here. And I love ice cream – in fact it’s my favourite thing ever. Plus I’m now an adult and I am old enough to make my own decisions as my dad always says… but still, even I know that 8 ice creams a day isn’t very good for me. Ahem. Local cheesecake
Gimme more… We found a local bakery with some amazing cheesecake, so we just had to share it with you all. The guy who used to live in our apartment told us it was his favourite in all of Berlin – and I can see why. Very thick and creamy, you literally end up with an entire mouthful of a slowly melting lump of cake in your cheeks. The base could have been a bit more crunchy, but it’s much much better than most of those we have found recently.
