B.Y.O.S (Bring your own SOFA!)
Today we got to experience the World Cup in a very novel way. FC Union Berlin have offered up their football stadium for the duration of the tournament and have set up a large screen for people to come along and watch the games together.
Sounds normal enough right? Well, it gets better.
Football fans can bring along their sofas and plonk them down on the football pitch so you can put your feet up up outdoors with thousands of like-minded crazy people and enjoy some football from the comfort of your own sofa. Amazing!
They’re calling it the ‘World Cup Living Room‘. They have put a 3500 metres of tacky faded orange wall paper and a giant bookshelf to complete the living room effect.
I have to say it was an amazing experience to be there with thousands of Germans to watch the Germany – Portugal game. Germany scoring 4 goals ensured that most people barely even sat on their sofas as they were too busy jumping around and screaming.
We didn’t feel up for bringing a whole sofa with us across the city so we decided to watch it from the stands and the atmosphere was incredible. We already decided to go back there for the next England game so we will report back if we see a decent English fan base there! For now, we will share photos of us wearing Red, Gold and Black and being German!

Errrr, at my school all the cool kids wore their rucksack on just one shoulder 😉 And the match was awesome – let’s hope for more of the same during England’s match!! 🙂
