    Entering the Sahara

I will give you five camels… Today I will tell you about my absolute favourite place to eat in Berlin, Sahara. Luckily it’s only ten minutes walk from the house. And it’s a total bargain at just £3 (€3.50) for an amazing dinner. The food is from Sudan. It’s a lot of breads with fillings. I have always ordered halloumi with chicken. Literally every time I have been there, that was my order. There are lots of options, including a vast array of vegetarian options. And you can get a whole plate of food if you prefer to use a knife and fork. We go every week. It’s just so…

    Massive Kinder Eggs

Chick-Chick-Chick-Chick-Chicken…. I actually wanted the title to read ‘MaHOOOOOsive Kinder Eggs’ but… I am trying to be a little professional. Anyway, short and sweet – we found these. Totally awesome and I wanted to share the joy with you all. You get a big toy inside as well – I think you all need to pop to Germany and get these as I have never seen them anywhere else.

    Green Tea Cheesecake

You say tomato… I say CHEESECAKE! So due to our continuous love and desire to find the best cheesecake in Berlin, once again we have done some research. This place is Jason’s current favourite, so take note people! Today we are going to go Japanese on you. Jason and I both lived in Japan for many years and so we obviously have a bit of an obsession with Japanese food. And that includes matcha (green tea), whether the drink or the flavour of ice cream. Some of our Japanese friends here mentioned that the matcha cheesecake at Mamecha was a bit epic, so off we went. I have to say,…

    Happy Monday: Crochet

Happy Monday everyone! Yes it’s the start of the week and we’re all thinking that we didn’t quite get enough sleep over the weekend but it’s time to reflect on something making us happy this Monday – hopefully putting us in the right frame of mind for the coming week! This week’s Happy Monday post is brought to your by the letter C, for Crochet. There are a lot of on-going crafts projects in the L&A house, for example, I have a half completed cross-stich of a penguin’s belly next to me as I write (which will look incredible when it’s finished if my Cross-stiching award from Primary school has…

    Sunday Brunch!

Food, glorious Food… A wonderful thing we have recently started doing is inviting people over for Sunday brunch. It’s a new favourite thing of mine to do, as everyone is unstressed and there is no need to rush home on the last train or go to sleep early. Today the favour was returned to us. We were invited over to a friend’s house to nibble some German delights. There were epic amounts of homemade jams and speciality salami was placed next to cheeses and salads. I love brunch. I think it may even be my new most enjoyable meal. You sit around for a few hours and chat whilst enjoying…

Guest Post: Currywurst is not the worst…it's the best!

Yesterday, being the first day in Berlin, I was in earnest of trying the local delacacies. Our friendly tour guides Leather & Abel ensured we were in in good hands on the food front. First meal: Currywurst at Dussmann, downstairs and inside a very comprehensive and jungle-friendly bookshop. I admit, I was sceptical about the sauce. I’m not a huge curry and sausages fan, especially from what I could see, in a less-than-discreet drowning sauce. To the absolute horror of the waiter, I asked for the sauce on the side. Nonetheless, he oliged me, bringing over a small dish of sausages and potatoes, and a large jug of sauce. I poured…

    Cheese Glorious Cheese

Three blind mice… So, this is going to be very short but very sweet. We have friends over from home at the moment. And they brought us some goodies. We are very happy! That’s all for now, as we have had a crazy day of being tour guides, eating sausages and researching cheesecake (found new amazing cake – watch this space!). Plus we are already late for a fabulous night of dancing, so… I will leave you with a photo of glorious English cheese. And if you are a friend of ours living in Berlin, I will warn you now, I’m not sharing any of it… haha!

    My brother is a teenager!

Happy Birthday to you… I can’t quite believe it is possible. I remember that day, 13 years ago. It was snowing and we were driving up to the hospital. Tiny snowflakes fell on our head as we walked up to the automatic doors. I even remember climbing up the stairs instead of taking the lift. I wondered what he would be like. Babies are always so tiny. And suddenly we were meeting for the first time. A tiny screaming baby boy. I held him in my arms as if he was a precious object that could break at any moment. Tears flowed down my cheeks. I loved him instantly. I…

    Spring has sprung

Spring fever, spring is here at last Spring fever, my heart’s beating fast Get up, get out spring is everywhere It’s funny how we have listened to locals in Berlin go on and on and ON about the terrible winter. We met people who were going to leave the country for a couple of months. Others told us how it had snowed until April last year. In autumn people told us to enjoy the outdoors while we still could. I was scared. Really scared. I don’t like the cold. I’m not from ‘up north’ like Jason. If it’s cold I wear a lot of clothes. And if I’m still cold…

Our 100th blog post is: How to make Strawberry Jam

We’re jamming, we’re jamming, we’re jamming… Yup, we’re jamming again. This time we got 6 punnets of strawberries for a bargain five euro. In Japan you wouldn’t get a single punnet for that price, so we stood next to the market stall figuring out if making strawberry jam would be easy and then we dove in quickly. You will need: 1kg strawberries 500g pectin sugar 2 limes Looking back and taking into consideration the fruits were bought at a market, we should have started preparing the jam the second we got home. But it was the weekend and we had so many plans… so when I looked in the bags…
