    Trip to Sweden (IKEA)

Mamma Mia *it has just got to be ABBA* A local friend was shocked that I had moved to Berlin, stayed in the city for over one month, and had not yet been to IKEA. It seems it is a right of passage when you move house. In London, IKEA was just around the corner, so we used to go for meatball dinner on a Friday night. When we realised IKEA is a stone’s throw away from our current residence, we went immediately to eat! Now we go all the time, whether we need something or not! IKEA meatballs are great. Here you get to put on the red sauce all by yourself.…

    Eierschale Berlin

Let me show you the way… Eierschale Dahlem is a huge restaurant – possibly the biggest I’ve seen in Berlin – just next to Podbielskiallee Station (U3). We often pop by for a delicious ice chocolate drink on a sunny day, as they have a grand outdoor terrace and it’s right next to the farm we love to visit. They have a seasonal carte, so obviously I went for the white asparagus, with boiled potatoes and Hollandaise sauce. OMG HEAVEN! They have fun live band nights (mostly swing dancing) and a great Sunday morning buffet with Jazz music. The service is fast and good, a nice change for Berlin and…

    Sick of being sick :(

I don’t believe it… Just as my wrist is finally getting a little better – BOOM – my back gives in. I’m getting a bit depressed with the constant pain and injuries. I’ve had tendinitus of my right wrist for 7 months now. I’ve been to 8 doctors, had around 4 months off (much of it as unpaid leave), a full-plaster, a half-cast, physio, ultra-sound therapy, hot sponges, herbal wraps… nothing worked. I’m so tired of it all. And Jason has also injured his foot – it’s ridiculous! Then a colleague suggested an osteopath might be the way to go. Now, coming from a medical family, I don’t really believe…

Germany – the land of strikes?

I just can’t be bothered… I always thought of France as the land of protests and strikes. From baggage handlers taking time off which made me almost miss my flight at the airport to the recent closing down of the Eiffel Tower due to increasing numbers of pickpockets, the only news I hear from France is how the workers are on strike. But now, I have noticed it’s a constant in London and Germany too. At home, there was one tube strike after the other – I find it hard to believe that every morning I would be spending literally extortionate amounts of money to be stuffed into a tiny…

Hüco Stoffe – Fabric Store in Berlin

Any place that advertises itself as having 200,000 meters of fabric is going to be able to provide us all with something we absolutely love. Hüco Stoffe in Berlin is HUGE – it’s a bit hidden away in the North-West of the city, but well-worth a visit if you need any kind of sewing accessories. A friend had advised me to go with an idea of what I wanted before I ended up melting in a puddle of happiness at the beautiful colours and material and glittery things and buttons and and and… so I went on the hunt for some cotton material for a dress I am currently making and…

    Spargel Season in Germany

I gotta feeling… that tonight’s gonna be a good night… Can I get a ‘Whoop Whoop‘ please? Spargel is back baby! All of Germany goes mad for white asparagus at this time of the year – Spargel huts appear, supermarkets have entire areas dedicated to this tasty veggie and every restaurant and bar around is serving the delicious dish. I actually remember when I was 15 and visiting my German friend’s house in Hannover. Her mother brought out some Spargel and I looked at it confused – I’d never seen it before and I was at the ‘not too keen on any kind of vegetable or fruit teenager‘ phase. But…

    The British Tag Part 2

Jason here 🙂 Following up from yesterday’s British questionnaire, it’s now my turn to answer! Now I’m missing England! Question 1: How many cups of tea do you have a day and how many sugars in your tea? My day is usually a coffee in the morning with a cup of tea (or 2) later in the afternoon. Yorkshire tea with a dash of milk! No sugar anymore after my Mum forced me to stop! Question 2: Favourite part of your roast? Can’t beat Yorkshire Puddings. I always fill them with mash potatoes, meat and gravy and eat it like a roast-in-an-edible-bowl. I’m weird. Question 3: Favourite dunking biscuit? I normally…
