Serviettentechnik

Atishoo atishoo, we all fall down.photo 1
I bet you have never even noticed that most serviettes have three layers. If you peel one by one off really carefully, you will discover what is needed for Serviettentechnik. This delicate top layer can be attached to pretty much anything you want to decorate. From turning a broken flowerpot into a beautiful candle holder to furnishing a cupboard or table, this takes barely any time at all. It is also unique and incredibly cheap, especially if you pick up serviettes from restaurants for free. Plus, it is a lovely way of reminding yourself of all the lovely places you went to and received serviettes. And if you pick one up from a friend, you can always say thank you by using it to decorate a frame with a photo of you both. The possibilities are endless.
So, let’s get making!
photo 2I found this HOME sign in a local shop and thought it would look good in our new place. Home Sweet Home and all that jazz.
After peeling the layers away and using only the top layer of a carefully selected bunch of serviettes, I started by choosing exactly how I wanted the various shapes and colours to be displayed.
Then with a paintbrush you carefully (the tissues are very delicate and can tear easily) brush the special glue over the top of the serviette. Make sure it is completely covered with glue, better to have too much than too little. Then you wait for it to dry, give it one more glue layer and voilà! Yes I know it is simple and quick and cheap… but shhhhhhh, don’t tell everyone else…
