Potsdam – a wonderful day trip from Berlin

We’re all going on a summer holiday…
We tell all our guests to go to Potsdam – it’s a beautiful town with an amazing summer palace surrounded by enormous parks just one hour from the centre of Berlin. We often pop down there for a walk on a sunny day and can only recommend it to you all. Last time we started our wanderings from Potsdam Park Sanssouci station, which starts you off bang in the middle of the park.
DSC_0154You go via the forests and fields up towards the Sanssouci Palace. On your way you will see a windmill, ice cream shop for those necessary snacks and plenty of stunning views and grand houses. But a little insiders tip would be to walk from Potsdam Station along the cobbled streets and via the quaint Dutch Town towards the Palace – as you walk along the narrow path surrounded by trees you suddenly come upon the palace and it makes me gasp everytime I see it from this angle, as it’s quite unexpected.
Sanssouci means ‘without care‘ and the palace was completed in 1747 as a place where the King of Prussia, Frederick the Great, could come and relax and spend time away from his more hectic life in Berlin. It feels like that’s what everyone comes here to do. You can sit and watch the ducks and herons, feed the fish in the fountains or just take your dog for a nice long walk.

Think this is my calling to start wildlife photography ;)

And if you are looking for somewhere delicious to eat, we highly recommend Alter Stadtwächter. It’s less than half-a-minute walk from the high street, which is always packed to the brim. Their Schnitzel is absolutely delicious and alongside Gösser Radler is the perfect thirst quencher.
So, without further ado, here are some of our lushious photos from our sunny Sunday walk! We took the camera for a change and I have to say the photos look professional – bit chuffed actually 🙂
