Home sweet Home

Our house, in the middle of our street…
I feel it’s time I told you about the background to the decision to move to Berlin. In September 2012 a group of friends from America, Sweden and the UK met up in Berlin.
We partied, walked for miles and discovered together what an amazing city Berlin is. I had been there as a child but I didn’t really remember anything.
I didn’t want to leave. After a life of extensive travelling abroad, this was the first place I had been to in which I felt this pull, this energy, this longing to stay and not go home. I wanted more. I needed more.

Soon after, I made a Swedish friend who has a holiday apartment in Berlin. I’m a big believer in fate. Certain things just fall into my path and I wander along for a while until something else pops up. When he offered to let us live there for a few months until we found our own place, it was impossible to say no. Suddenly we had a viable plan. A place to live, time to prepare for the move and the funds available for moving. We told our bosses of our plans and made one more quick trip to Berlin, in order to confirm our love of the place.
We loved it more than before. Our main worry had been the apartment, so our test included staying at the accommodation. It was just wonderful. The area is buzzing and convenient for transport links. The place is spacious, clean and has a balcony.
It was the first time that it was just the two of us living together. We both enjoy the same things: food, dancing, relaxing… and it is the perfect place to do just that. We have scanned the local area and already have our favourite pub, our second favourite pub with a hammock and (importantly) a good bakery and supermarket around the corner. We even found balboa dancing a mere five minute walk away. Everything is ridiculously cheap and fresh. The bread smells delicious. The variety of cheese and pâté is extensive. We found it quite hard to choose what to eat.
So I guess we shall just continue along this path until we have eaten everything…
PS: It is true that we caught a mouse (?) in a trap whilst we were busy eating white chocolate ice creams the other day. However, it is not the end of Herby, as it seems another mouse, Herby II, has been spotted running down the middle of the living room. He is small and brown. We may call him Brownie in the future – any thoughts?
