    Best Pizza in Berlin?

More cheeeeeeese!! I’m not the biggest fan of pizza. Maybe I ate too much of it or something, but I can’t really get excited about a pizza at a restaurant or takeaway. Then Jason came into my life and started hand-making the base and I got to do the toppings. Now that’s my kind of pizza. I don’t want a load of dough and crust. I want a thin base to hold lots of delicious flavours. I need to be swimming in cheese and I don’t want to chew constantly, I just want it to almost slide down into my stomach. So when a group of us were out and…

    Unimaginable years ago

I’d like to see, the world today, in perfect harmony… Yesterday was one of those amazing days that makes me proud to be a human being living in an amazing city, Berlin. On my way to work, I came across the PRIDE festival. I didn’t even know it was going on until I tried to get into work and the whole street had been closed and people dancing on buses and waving the rainbow flag came flowing passed. Later on, Germany played Ghana. Having lived in Ghana, it will always hold a special place in my heart. I may be half-German, but I was supporting Ghana of course! And we…

    Philharmonic at the Apple Store

Well, this is the first time I am not using a musical or similar quote before my writing, because today I’m writing about classical music and there are no words. D’oh! Right, let me get to the story. A lovely friend in London sent us a link with information about a free Philharmonic Concert in Berlin at the Apple Store. The word free is always a massive temptation for us, so off we went to check it out. To cut a long story short, renowned conductor and composer Esa-Pekka Salonen came to talk to the small audience about his new App ‘The Orchestra’. It looked pretty cool – you can…

    B.Y.O.S (Bring your own SOFA!)

Today we got to experience the World Cup in a very novel way. FC Union Berlin have offered up their football stadium for the duration of the tournament and have set up a large screen for people to come along and watch the games together. Sounds normal enough right? Well, it gets better. Football fans can bring along their sofas and plonk them down on the football pitch so you can put your feet up up outdoors with thousands of like-minded crazy people and enjoy some football from the comfort of your own sofa. Amazing! They’re calling it the ‘World Cup Living Room‘. They have put a 3500 metres of…

    Happy Father's Day

Like Father – Like Daughter So, today is Father’s Day. As we live in different countries, we can’t hang out today BUT as soon as I heard he was going to be eating dimsum there was only one thing I would doing in Germany. We quickly looked online for the best dimsum in Berlin and went to Aroma Restaurant. The restaurant was good, better than average but not as good as the Royal China in London – I think that place is actually unbeatable though. I was pleasantly surprised at the selection and good service. Online, the Chung Fan came recommended and it definitely was delicious. If you are having…

    It wasn't me…

It was the ladybird… So I’m really tired today. I didn’t sleep well and I had to work from 7am until 4pm. Then I ran home, had two ice creams, went to a friend’s birthday party which was full of cats and my allergies went crazy so I had to leave. Then I came home, had two more ice creams and now I don’t know what to write… So I am going to tell you about this little cutie. Not only can you find them in the great outdoors eating lost of bugs, they are also in the shops in Germany. The Germans really seem to love ladybirds (ladybugs for…

    The magical vegetable called Spargel

nom nom nom nom nom… Okay, I am going to digress slightly from our Hamburg posts, but there are more of those on the way soon. Right now, I just have to tell you all about Spargel! I came to Germany by myself to visit friends as a teenager and I still remember my friend’s mum bringing out a dish of Spargel. I had never seen the vegetable before, but I like to try everything once, so I tucked right in. I can still remember the white sauce dribbling over the stalks and as I ate it, I thought: “Wow – what on earth is this yumminess? And why haven’t…

    Monkey-ing around

Ten little monkeys, jumping on the bed… There is a new massive shopping centre that opened its doors this month. Confusingly, it’s called Bikini, but it sells all kinds of things inside – not only swimwear. It’s only five minutes away from UNIQLO and we went there during my lunch break today to have a look at the monkeys. Yup, that’s right – monkeys! Bikini is right next door to the zoo. So instead of paying a lot of money for entrance to see the animals, you can walk onto the rooftop of the shopping centre and look over the balcony. You can see the monkeys from here and if…

    GOLD Magnum!

Gold – Gold! Always believe in your soul, you’ve got the power to go… Well, I know I literally only just told you about the amazing Champagne Magnum the other day, but I couldn’t resist telling you about something even better. ‘Better than champagne’ I hear you ask? Impossible. But lo and behold, it is true: GOLD! Yup, the packaging says it all and the flavour says the rest… I couldn’t keep my eyes off this tasty morsel and it didn’t last long. Luckily it came in a packet, so I could have more than one – hehe 🙂

A flavour of Japan in Berlin!

Sakura, Sakura… This time of the year makes me jealous of all the people in Japan. Facebook is covered with photos of people on blue tarpaulin mats drinking sake and eating bento lunch boxes under the cherry blossom. It’s so beautiful. I remember during my first year at university when my friend and I went to Japan for a month over the Easter holidays. We literally followed the blossoms from the South to the North, eating and generally being merry all across Japan. It was easy to do, as the weather forecasts and every train station you visit will tell you how full the blossoms are in the surrounding areas…
