Germany in the World Cup Final

Deutschland über alles… Well, today is the big day. Germany is in the World Cup Final. I have to say that the general games have been very irritating for me. So to watch Brazil get thrashed felt wonderful. The South American teams “football” attempts have been full of “falls”, “stumbles” and “injuries”. Their exit of the World Cup showed that actually playing as a team and by the rules is the way to victory and it made me want to support Germany. I know, I know, I never thought I’d say it. I feel like my British passport will be revoked or I won’t be let back in at customs, but…

Will the World Cup never end?

No lions on a shirt… Ugh. It seems the football will never end. It just goes on and on. Can’t they just play more matches per day or something? It’s depressing as I have no one to cheer for. Of course we were routing for England to lift the trophy, but that dream didn’t last too long. Then Japan were out, followed by Ghana and soon after, Mexico. I’m now left with not a single country I feel strongly about, to the horror of my German family. But you all understand, right? I’m only half-German, and as an English lady, I just can’t support Germany. I just can’t. I feel…

    World Cup fever strikes

Food, glorious food… The World Cup is everywhere. Flags adorn cars, windows, faces. On the way in and once again on the way out of shops, you can pick up leis, facepaint and special edition drinks. There is no way to oversee that this country loves football and loves their national team. Whenever Germany score a goal you can hear the cheers and fireworks go off in the distance. England is the same, but I haven’t seen supermarkets gettin involved like this: What a great idea! I was very amused when I saw these, but now I’m a little disappointed I didn’t buy any. Tomorrow’s match is Germany – v –…

    B.Y.O.S (Bring your own SOFA!)

Today we got to experience the World Cup in a very novel way. FC Union Berlin have offered up their football stadium for the duration of the tournament and have set up a large screen for people to come along and watch the games together. Sounds normal enough right? Well, it gets better. Football fans can bring along their sofas and plonk them down on the football pitch so you can put your feet up up outdoors with thousands of like-minded crazy people and enjoy some football from the comfort of your own sofa. Amazing! They’re calling it the ‘World Cup Living Room‘. They have put a 3500 metres of…

    Go England Go!

Three lions on a shirt… So, today the World Cup finally starts. Many people ask me who I will be supporting – England? Germany? Japan? Ghana? Just so that you all know and to make it official: My phone’s ringtone is the themesong to MOTD (Match Of The Day). I have always supported England and always will – in the Olympics it will always be Great Britain. We are going to be watching England win match after match until we are once again named champions! I remember as a young child (2001) going to the German School after England had thrashed Germany 5-1. My brother and I wore England shirts…
