A Lovely Hen Party

Those of you that know me well will also know I’m not a typical girlie girl. I don’t like shopping, massages, going to the hairdresser, spending money on makeup or famous star spotting. I would much rather sit in Jason’s clothes reading a book whilst makeup-less in bed after having cut my own hair. I also find it hard to get excited about wedding-related stuff, although I really enjoy weddings! I’m trying very hard at the moment to be a good bridesmaid for my sister-to-be.

I actually managed to get a weekend off to go home to London for three days for the Hen Party and to see my friends and family for the first time this year!! Just being home felt wonderful. I know most people try and get out of London as it’s too busy and expensive but I miss it like crazy. I love the London underground and beeping my oyster card on the way into the stations. I like how people walk quickly and efficiently. I love hearing other people with my accent speaking English. I know the whole tube map by heart and although it’s super annoying when one of the lines isn’t working over the weekend, I know how to get around this. It’s easy and feels easy to be in London for me.

I’m sure you all know what a hen party is, but a quick explanation would be a party for ONLY ladies to celebrate a bride’s almost-getting-married without the bride knowing what on earth the plan is, but she has to join in the fun wearing something odd. In England, this mostly involves a spa and high tea and some fun evening giggles, so we followed the crowd and did exactly that! And it was wonderful! it started with High Tea at the Soho Hotel right in the middle of London. The place was lovely and pink and the sandwiches had the crust cut off, the scones were warm and fluffy and the mini cakes were so cute!

Just for some food envy, I’m going to close up on those cakes, just because I can – muhahaha!

Just in case you’re wondering, we had red velvet cup cakes with Oreos and cream cheese frosting, chocolate caramel tartlet with whipped coffee cream, lemon and lime posset with poached berries (the consensus was that this was the favourite) and banana and pistachio cake with toffee cream and crushed praline.

Then we went to the Ajala Spa at the Grange Holborn Hotel. We all picked a treatment (I went for a massage even though I don’t like people I don’t know touching me AT ALL!!) and it was very calming.They give you towels and bathrobes and the place is very chilled out. It has a pool that we all swam around in (well, after High Tea it was more like floated around in haha) and at the end they provided us with strawberries and bubbly. It seems they have about 3 hen parties a day, so they knew how to look after us 🙂

Then we went back to the bride’s for Chinese takeaway, karaoke, presents and giggles! I can’t tell you what else happened, as it’s a secret 😉
