Why English food is the best!!

Food glorious food… When people say English food is bad, I just feel sorry for them. They obviously haven’t experienced England properly. When people say the food in London is bad, I just pity them and think these people are very lucky to have met me – now they have a chance to be educated in food from my wonderfully delicious home. London has the best food in the world. Anything you want to eat – it’s there. From curry and cakes for breakfast to fresh bagels and soup at 3am. Hungry for a typical English breakfast at dinner time? No problem for London! I literally could go on and on…

    Green Eggs and Ham

We have all had those moments when hunger pangs hit you suddenly and you find yourself pacing around the kitchen looking for anything even remotely edible to fill the sudden hole in your stomach. Luckily, today on L&A, we’d like to share with you a current favourite recipe that can be prepped, cooked and eaten within 5 minutes. That’s right, a delicious hot meal in about the same time it takes to make a bowl of cereal (at least how long it takes me to make cereal when I’m stumbling around the house blurry eyed at 6am). Introducing the wonder that is… Pesto Pancakes! They may not be the most…

Vanille & Marille Ice Cream Shop

Too much traffic in my head… It’s getting really hot in Berlin. We had our first BBQ this week and got nice face tans but bit crispy arm burns… but the good news is that ICE CREAM solves everything and I have tried yet another delicious place I want to tell you all about. Vanille & Marille is in the South-West part of Berlin in the suburb area. It’s down a tiny street and unless you know it’s there, you wouldn’t go. What’s not to love? The place is bright pink, the staff serve with a smile and there are tons of flavours to choose from. They try and source their…

    Trip to Sweden (IKEA)

Mamma Mia *it has just got to be ABBA* A local friend was shocked that I had moved to Berlin, stayed in the city for over one month, and had not yet been to IKEA. It seems it is a right of passage when you move house. In London, IKEA was just around the corner, so we used to go for meatball dinner on a Friday night. When we realised IKEA is a stone’s throw away from our current residence, we went immediately to eat! Now we go all the time, whether we need something or not! IKEA meatballs are great. Here you get to put on the red sauce all by yourself.…

    Spargel Season in Germany

I gotta feeling… that tonight’s gonna be a good night… Can I get a ‘Whoop Whoop‘ please? Spargel is back baby! All of Germany goes mad for white asparagus at this time of the year – Spargel huts appear, supermarkets have entire areas dedicated to this tasty veggie and every restaurant and bar around is serving the delicious dish. I actually remember when I was 15 and visiting my German friend’s house in Hannover. Her mother brought out some Spargel and I looked at it confused – I’d never seen it before and I was at the ‘not too keen on any kind of vegetable or fruit teenager‘ phase. But…

    PINK Magnum

I’m tickled pink… So all of you should know that I love pink and even more than that, I love ice cream. And yesterday I discovered that I love pink ice cream! It seems every summer in Germany has new Magnum ice cream flavours – this one is very berry raspberry flavour. You can really taste the fruit with every bit – more than the chocolate actually. I love how sparkly it is as well. It’s not my favourite (is it possible to beat white chocolate?), but I’m sure I will be nomming more of this over the summer months. Have you found any fun ice cream flavours this season?…

    Best Vietnamese in Berlin

I just can’t get enough… So we have been to Monsieur Vuong so many times already that I can’t believe I haven’t told you about it yet. The food is amazing, every single time. We actually went there by chance the first time – we had planned to get Japanese Ramen Noodles from Makoto, but they were closed. We saw the restaurant opposite was pretty full and thought that was a good sign, so popped in. The staff all wear T-shirts with Mr Vuong on them – plus there are a load of photos of the chef on the wall too – a bit weird, but you gotta trust me…

    New Favourite Cheesecake Found!

Happy Birthday to Jason… It was a few weeks ago that Jason got even older. He will always be my toyboy of course, but he’s slowly catching up to me. Haha. He got a fabulous guitar for his special day from Just Music and I’d been told about a friend’s favourite cake place the day before, so off we went to explore. Bravo Bravko Kuchenwerkstatt is absolutely nothing-even-slightly exciting. Two massive long tables and a cheesecake counter. However, the canteen feel means you can see the cakes being freshly made and ordering was hard as everything looked delicious. Jason’s favourite is anything lemon-flavoured, so we got the lemon cheesecake and the…

Vienna Day Five – Last Day :(

My milkshake brings all the boys to the yard… We had seen a massive queue for a tiny little ice cream shop on Sunday, but there must’ve been about forty people in line. I’m English, so I love a good queue, but that’s too much even for me. However, a holiday isn’t a holiday without ice cream, so on Monday morning, we went to see what the fuss was all about. There was no one in line at Eis Greissler and we got a single scoop in a cone for €1.50. Now I know why everyone was waiting in line… O… M… G… WOW! We nearly went back for another…

    Vienna Day Four

Let it go, let it go… There wasn’t meant to be a Vienna Day Four, we planned to go to Budapest and the hot springs for the last two days, but the train was so expensive in the end that it didn’t seem worth it and with the stress of maybe missing a train and then our flight… well, we were wanting a holiday, so instead we booked another night in Vienna and took it easy. It meant we had time to go a little further out of the city centre to see the Palace. A trip to Vienna would not be complete without seeing the Schönbrunn Palace. I haven’t…
