How long to spend in Magdeburg?

Ooh ah, just a little bit… Iā€™m just going to tell you how it was. This week, we rented a car with three friends from Berlin and went on a little holiday adventure to the Harz. Stories about this stunning part of Germany will follow soon, but on our journey we needed a pit-stop. Basically, I needed a wee. Ahem. A sign said Magdeburg City was just ahead, so we left the Autobahn and headed into what can only be described as a super ugly town. All the buildings were cement-grey blocks, no trees aligned the streets and there was building work all over the place. Luckily from a distance…

    A well deserved holiday

We’re all going on a summer holiday… Yeah, yeah. I know. Berlin feels like a long holiday already. BUT we have been working hard and all that jazz, so it’s only natural that we would like a mini holiday! So we have actually spent the past three days in the Harz. We will tell you all about it soon, but for now, as we are away in a cottage without wifi, I would just like to show you a picture of the cutie we are travelling with: Vincent!

    GOLD Magnum!

Gold ā€“ Gold! Always believe in your soul, you’ve got the power to go… Well, I know I literally only just told you about the amazing Champagne Magnum the other day, but I couldn’t resist telling you about something even better. ‘Better than champagne’ I hear you ask? Impossible. But lo and behold, it is true: GOLD! Yup, the packaging says it all and the flavour says the rest… I couldn’t keep my eyes off this tasty morsel and it didn’t last long. Luckily it came in a packet, so I could have more than one ā€“ hehe šŸ™‚

    What a (Kinder) Surprise

Too good to be true? Just when I had thought I had seen everything Kinder Surprise could offer, I spotted this mini egg carton in the aisle of the local supermarket. Oooooh, something new to try! Jason raised his eyebrows as I put it into the shopping basket, but he was quickly reminded it was for our blog research. It’s a good thing I saw them really. It’s actually better than the real thing! How is this possible I hear you ask? Well… let’s take a look inside. The eggs are halved. One has a toy and a spoon and the other side has some kind of magic inside. It…

    My very own Boris Bike!

I want to ride my bicycle… So, today we had friends over for breakfast, went for a lovely wander in the Botanical Gardens, enjoyed the sunshine a bit too much (I’m all pink in the face now) and then played some boardgames with friends and a dog. You would think that is enough for a lazy Sunday. But no… through a colleague I had heard about a bicycle on sale. It looked good, with a basket, a bell and a rack at the back. So off we went to meet a Taiwanese man at a random station. We exchanged money and I cycled off happily! And because I know you…

    Best croissants in Berlin

Wake up in the morning wantin’ some breakfast… There are days when I wake up and feel French. I want to put on my striped black-and-white T-shirt and red beret, speak with an accent of the French variety and eat croissants. On these days, I was happy to be living near Croissanterie. I have eaten a lot of croissants in my life. One day, I would like to try to make my own. But for now, I will frequent this place whenever I am in the area. For now, I would like to share the experience with you. Please take a moment to just dribble over the photo please. This…

    Champagne Magnum?

Celebrate good times, come on! Yes my friends, this exists! I came across this tasty morsel whilst racing the moving truck to our new place. The van only had one seat, which our friend took, while Jason and I rushed to our new home by public transport. I was hot, sticky and grumpy. The only thing that could have saved me at that moment was ice cream. I know you all understand this… When we saw that our train would arrive in a few minuets, we popped into the convenience store at Fehrbelliner Platz. There, I grabbed the Nogger ice cream I have come to adore. But out of the…

A flavour of Japan in Berlin!

Sakura, Sakura… This time of the year makes me jealous of all the people in Japan. Facebook is covered with photos of people on blue tarpaulin mats drinking sake and eating bento lunch boxes under the cherry blossom. It’s so beautiful. I remember during my first year at university when my friend and I went to Japan for a month over the Easter holidays. We literally followed the blossoms from the South to the North, eating and generally being merry all across Japan. It was easy to do, as the weather forecasts and every train station you visit will tell you how full the blossoms are in the surrounding areas…

    The positives of moving house…

Hey, ab in den ‘Westen’, der Sonne hinterher… So, we have done it. It was awful. Hot. Sweaty. I guess I should be thankful it wasn’t raining, but when you are literally dripping and yet again facing four flights of stairs, well… I am English and we like to moan. I had to try hard to KEEP CALM AND MOVE HOUSE! I could spend the next few hours telling you why I never ever plan to move house again. I can barely move my legs or arms. I might just stay in bed all day to recover (ahem ā€“ please don’t judge me) and to say that the apartment here…

    April Fools?

I’m a fool for you… For the past three years, I have had to get up at the crack of dawn, crawl to the newsagents and buy every single UK newspaper. The living-room would be littered with printed sheets as I trawled through the news, desperately searching for April Fools articles that we could then film and broadcast to Japan. April Fools is such a fun custom, but it’s not always easy to find the jokes, as the newspapers save a whole load of unbelievable stories for this special day, just to confuse us journalists. This year everything had changed. It’s weird. You wake up on the first of April.…
