The Flu and a Lifetime Achievement!

There is no one else…
I’ve mostly been excited about getting my photo on the front page of the BBC – this has been a life goal for me and I made it! It was taken in the lovely little town I lived in for three years and I’ve told everyone there and they are so excited to be featured – next step is to make it a UNESCO site 🙂
In other news… I’m sick. Really badly sick. It’s been going on for almost two weeks now. At first I just pumped myself full with Ibuprofen so it was okay for a week, but just as I was starting to feel better, I got the same thing all over again and am suffering twice as badly now as I’m not allowed to take painkillers. You know that on the package it tells you how many times you can take medicine etc? Well… let’s just say that coming from a family of doctors, I’m a little ashamed to say I don’t bother reading the instructions and took Ibuprofen for 12 days running. This is dangerous. It’s meant to be a max at three days and then if necessary you go on to something lighter like Paracetamol. And now, as I’m struggling with this crappy flu, I’m no longer allowed to take pain medication at all – I’ve overdone it and am lucky I don’t have stomach problems from overdosing. So my advice here is, please read those packages. And if you are sick, it’s probably best to rest and not to go into work as I did last week. I’m so ill now that I can’t go to work and it’s actually meant to be my last week as I handed in my notice (YIPPEEEEEE!), but can’t even say goodbye to my colleagues. Ah well. I need to rest, as it is I can barely stand up. I spent all night shivering even though I was wearing heat-clothing, had a hot water bottle inside my jumper, my personal heating system (AKA Jason) was being snuggled and the central heating was on full, but still…

In true German-doctor style, I’ve been given some herbal tea. It’s good because I’m getting fluid inside me as well as healing herbs, but all I want is something super strong to stop the pain so I can sleep. Ah well…
In happy news for you all, not being able to sleep means I can write about out amazing West-Germany holiday! Blog posts will go up from tomorrow, all about the biggest boardgame Expo in the world in Essen, our trip to eat Japanese food in Duesseldorf, eating cakes and painting in Cologne and a quaint trip to walk a friend’s dog in Bad Muenstereifel. All this and more to come… be excited! 🙂
