Jumping on the blogging train

Why don’t you write me, I’m out in the jungle, I’m hungry to hear you?

Recently I was visited by my lovely friend Charlotte (of Sherbert and Sparklesphoto fame). I’ve never been much of a reader of blogs, but I am trying and I love her writing style as well as what she writes about. Having found a blogging friend who also writes about her experiences abroad, I quizzed her for any advice she had. Apparently, the new “fashion” is writing a short thank you to something random on a Friday. Apparently there are lots of blogs that do this. Have a search if you have time…

She also told me about www.skillshare.com where people “teach” you something they have knowledge about. This sounds like an advertisement, but bare with me… I just want to know how to get some more readers and to keep the content of our blog interesting for you. It’s true, I’m just thinking about your happiness! Plus, it seems I may be developing an interest in the geeky world behind the scenes of blogs. I have even started wearing my glasses more…

Anyway, this week I have learnt about editorial calenders and plugins. And today, I will tell you why they are amazing and how they will change our blog!

*nerd alert – skip the next paragraph if you don’t really care*

Basically, you can organise all your unpublished future blog posts by adding them to an editorial calender. For example, you can make sure you post something everyday if you wish, or you can check you have a regular post for a particular day, for example the above-mentioned “Friday thank you note”. It gives you an overview of what work needs to be done and can warn you when you haven’t made a blog post. You can add what time you want the post to go out and easily move posts around… If you have a wordpress blog, get the plugin. If you don’t know what I am talking about don’t worry about it. If I am honest, I’m not sure I know either. Haha.

So, what does this mean for you? It means that (hopefully) we will be posting more regularly. And with a specific aim and/or topic. Our blog is a work in progress, we both enjoy contributing to it and hopefully you enjoy reading it. However, we would like to make it easier to navigate and more structured.

So, to start it all off, I am going to introduce Happy Mondays! Instead of being sad that the working week is about to begin, you can look forward to a regular Monday blog post of something wonderful we have discovered during that week and that we are obsessed with. It could be a fabulous shop, a song or band, an amazing person, a touristy area or my fabulous earrings – that’s a hint for the first Happy Monday post right there by the way. I’m guessing most of them will be food-related (it’s my favourite thing…) but either way, it is something you can look forward to every week, starting… Monday! I hope you are as excited as I am!
