Herby, his family, his friends and Mr Rat

We are family, I got all my sisters with me…
Yeah, so Herby was never lonely it seems. We had the pest control come over yesterday and it seems Herby is a bit of a party animal. His friends have been hanging out all over the house. In every room in fact and on every floor. He has left little clues to his whereabouts. From the attic to behind the toilet. One piece of evidence was even found on Jason’s old bed.
It was an evening of learning about poo. The first droppings we found were tiny and almost cute, for poo standards. They were in the kitchen, under the cupboards. No stress there. Then we found some droppings in the cupboard under the stairs. Still okay, as no one ever hangs out in there. Then we found evidence on the second floor which was not so good, as that’s living space. Finding poo on the third floor was much worse as that is our sleeping area.
mr ratThen I learnt another thing. Rats’ poo is larger than that of mice. And when it is dark and shiny it means it is quite fresh as it is still hydrated. We found a few of these scattered inside the bathroom cupboard on the second floor. Mr Rat hasn’t yet quite managed to figure out how to get into the house, but he has set up camp in the bathroom cupboard for the moment. We found his escape route via the hole in the roof alongside the drain pipes for the bath. We could see the scratch marks on the drain and there was no evidence of spider webs, showing movement as the rest of the area is covered in webs of all shapes and sizes. He is a clever rat.
Now we sit and wait. Poison has been placed everywhere. In a week’s time we will get another visit from our professional pest-killing friend. Here is hoping it works. I’m sure you will be updated in due course.
For now, I will just let you know that I like how the pest control man called our new housemate “Mr Rat”. Using a singular noun makes life with a rat in the house a lot less scary. And there is nothing wrong with a few cute brown mice having a party in the house while we are out. Either way, I’m sure mice heaven is a lovely place, full to the brim with a variety of cheeses. I quite like the sound of it myself…
