America Baby!

USA! USA! USA!
Yup – we just got back from an epic trip to New York and New Orleans. It’s hard to decide on my favourite moments – every second was awesome!!! From literally growing a belly (OMG – it’s gross!) to seeing my lovely friend get married to Mardi Gras in New Orleans… seriously – amazing!
So our next blog posts are going to be full of delicious and exciting things for you to put on your bucket list! And to start it all off, here is the cronut:

I had cronut (half croissant – half doughnut) images all over my Facebook feed a while back and it was probably Number One on my list of things to eat in NY. Sadly my friends (and Jason at first) where not impressed or even excited at the prospect at standing in the queue for two hours in the snow, possibly to be turned away without sweet-yumminess. However, I’m English – I see a queue and I want to join it (ahem). But it really was bitterly cold. And snowing. And did I mention it was oh-so freezing cold.
So we ignored the recommendations to be in the queue of Dominique Ansel Bakery by 7am, even though they only open at 8am. It was also so warm and snuggly in bed, we actually only made it to the place at 9am. I feel like NY loved us when we got in the queue INSIDE THE SHOP. There were only 4 people in front of us. When they said there were exactly 19 cronuts left for the day, I will admit that I was so nervous I had to hold Jason’s hand. When we got to the end of the queue and ordered our salted caramel cronuts I was ready to hug the lady at the cashier (but not because of the price – ouch)!
It was heaven. Literally. Heaven. The layers of croissant mixed with the toughness of a doughnut covered with sugar pieces and salted caramel drizzled on the top. I have a lot of sweet teeth (28 to be exact) and if I carry on eating so many sugary foods I won’t have many teeth left, but just forgot about your health and your teeth for a wonderful moment and just enjoy. If it’s too sweet for you, just pack it up and send it to me 😉

Our friends arrived five minutes after us and were too late – luckily we had of course bought one for them too. So I can only recommend getting in the queue super early and go when it’s too cold and snowy for normal people to queue on a weekday (translate as: only crazy people will be in the queue on a day like that…).
On a side-note, we actually did a lot of research into what to do if the cafe runs out of cronuts and we were told the DKA was actually even better. So in order to be fair, we ordered one, everyone else loved it except me – it’s really not a cronut, just a bit of dough. You gotta get that cronut! And then once you’ve had it – you gotta get the postcard!! Plus keep in mind there is a different flavour each month – February 2015 is cherry blossom flavour…
