A trip to Dresden – Accommodation

A Home away from Home…
So, every day this week there will be a post about our weekend trip to Dresden back in November/December 2013. Today I will tell you about the amazing place we stayed. Tomorrow will have information on the controversial bridge that lost Dresden it’s UNESCO status. Over the week you will learn about the milk factory, one of the most beautiful bars/ shops I have ever visited. As we were in Dresden for the Christmas markets, I will tell you all about those too. Then a little about the history and sights you mustn’t miss, including a short trip on a boat! I hope this will be lots of good information for you all to enjoy, digest and then organise your own visit to this stunning city. Off I go…
It was winter. Dark and cold. Plus it was snowing on and off, not a lot of white stuff, more a light dusting of fluffy cold flakes. We had friends from all over request to stay in Berlin with us to visit the Christmas markets. However, we live here and we didn’t want to go to the same markets every single day for a month, so instead we made a plan: meet all our friends in Dresden. That meant we get a holiday, plus we get to see all of our friends at the same time! Brilliant!
IMG_2292If you haven’t heard of AirBNB yet, where have you been? Hotels are becoming less and less popular for travellers nowadays. I have never enjoyed staying in a posh and overpriced hotel. What is the point? All you do is sleep on a bed in a little room. You don’t really get a feel of how local people live. Plus you don’t get a kitchen and my favourite thing about a holiday with friends is that everyone can sit down for a leisurely breakfast together.
So, we gathered a lovely group of people and booked this epic house. If you scroll to the bottom of the page you can even read my comment:

Amazing house – there were 10 of us and there was still a lot of room. The photos do not do this place justice. It is HUGE, the owner is very helpful and friendly and I cannot recommend the place more 🙂

IMG_2308It was so big I actually got confused and because we had rented the entire house we were able to make as much noise as we liked all night long. The guitar played while we sang Christmas carols. We had a Secret Santa exchange and made Christmas cookies. There was homemade pizza and mulled wine alongside dancing and some sleeping. A lovely weekend with lovely people. If you are a big group and not sure about where to travel in Germany, this is the place for you!
As one of our members Gemma said:

The Dresden trip was my first time to Germany and I got to go to the oldest Christmas Market in Germany!! The Christmas market was amazing, I had a great time with everyone exploring the market and eating German Bratwurst, Currywurst, Chocolate waffles and drinking hot mulled wine. It was nice to meet loads of new people and have fun cooking dinner together and playing 90’s music trivia.
