Go (Outside on a Rainy Day)

It’s no secret to anyone that I love playing boardgames. I will usually never pass up the opportunity to sit down around a table with some nice people and put our minds together over some fun, interative game. (By the way, if I do decline a game invite then I’d recommend calling an ambulance as I may well be very sick). Of all the games I have played and enjoyed, nothing compares to my love for the game of Go. Known as Igo (囲碁) in Japan, Baduk (바둑) in Korea or Weiqi (圍棋) in China, it is one of the oldest boardgames in existence and, in my humble opinion, the greatest.…

    Best Pancakes in Berlin

Eggs, milk and flour, pancake power, look at his milky yellow sunshine face flip it now flip it good ooh, flip it now flip it good ooh… Sunday brunching is one of my favourite ever things! When the girls from work suggested pancakes I couldn’t say no, and I think you will all be thanking them too after looking at these beautiful nommy photos! My favourite thing about the place is the menu. You have six styles of pancake to choose from and that’s it. No faffing about – two of us shared the WTF (ahem) – bacon and maple syrup. It was so thick – the length of my thumb and…

    The Spreewald

You’re beautiful… After deciding to stay at the ridiculous pickled gherkin barrel accommodation, we had to find something to do in the local area of the Spreewald. Luckily, there are lots of things to choose from and it’s a stunning area to check out just one hour outside of Berlin. The main town is Luebbenau and it’s small enough to walk everywhere. This UNESCO area is full of lakes, forests and canals. Bike rental is available on every corner and there are ample bike lanes and routes to choose from. You absolutely cannot leave without being punted on the canals. It was lovely just floating slowly along the water. The trip lasts…

    Sleeping in a Cucumber Barrel

As cool as a cucumber… Well, we did it yet again. We saw the most hilarious accommodation ever and decided to visit the surrounding area because of it. Yup, you guessed it, we stayed in a pickled gherkin barrel (Gurkenfass) in the Spreewald, a UNESCO area just one hour south of Berlin by car. I have to say I was a bit apprehensive of four people squashing together in one of these little vessels and when the owner suggested we take two huts we nearly caved in, but it’s an adventure and I thought it would be a giggle with Jason and I on the bottom and my brother and his…

    Getting a tan…

Feeling hot hot hot… Sometimes I look at other people in summer and wonder how they manage to get such nice tans. Then I remember… it’s because I’m ridiculously ‘sensible’ and wear sunscreen every single day of every single year. I don’t know when it started, but for as long as I remember, I put on sun-factor 30 and stay mostly in the shade. I guess the pain of getting burnt to a red crisp just hurt too much one day and I stopped toasting myself and starting hiding my skin. I heard that skin cancer is one of the most painful ways to die. I also see friends who…
