Orange Coasters

When life gives you lemons, make orange coasters?
I saw these Citrus Coasters on Pinterest on The Purl Bee Website a while back and wanted to give them a go. I have to say they were such a pain to make – took such a long time and such a lot of effort. In the original website, the pieces were all held together by pins, but all this did was hurt my fingers as I was constantly pricking them. I would recommend mini-pegs for this:

I used the pattern provided and I think the coasters are a little small really, so I would make them bigger next time to hold the cup and any moisture than runs down the sides better. I also toyed with both white and orange thread, but I think I prefer the white thread. It’s a hard and time-consuming project – the thread is very visible so you have to be careful with each stitch you make, plus it’s fiddly, but I actually think they turned out lovely. Now I just need to make the other colours…
