Entering the Sahara

I will give you five camels…
Today I will tell you about my absolute favourite place to eat in Berlin, Sahara. Luckily it’s only ten minutes walk from the house. And it’s a total bargain at just £3 (€3.50) for an amazing dinner.
photo(3)The food is from Sudan. It’s a lot of breads with fillings. I have always ordered halloumi with chicken. Literally every time I have been there, that was my order. There are lots of options, including a vast array of vegetarian options. And you can get a whole plate of food if you prefer to use a knife and fork. We go every week. It’s just so good I’m almost scared to try something else on the menu, as I always leave with a smile and a happy belly.
This week, I met a Syrian man, who said he travels across Berlin for their falafel, which he promised was the best in Germany. That’s high praise and I would like to try it, but I just can’t see myself getting anything other than my usual.
Let me tell you just a little more about the place. It’s tiny, cramped even. Maximum ten seats. It’s always busy. Always. The man behind the till does not stop talking. At all. Ever. I would love to know what he talks about the entire time, as his colleagues barely reply, but I don’t understand the language he is using.
Oh yeah, I nearly forgot to mention the peanut sauce! That’s actually the main reason our lovely local friend took us there in the first place. She said it’s amazing and cheap food with the best peanut sauce ever. It dribbles over the side of the bread and you end up making such a mess all over your hands and the table. However, it’s so good you can’t help but lick your fingers. You don’t want to lose a drop. That sauce is like heaven on a plate. And in case you are worried that the inside of the bread will be dry, worry no more. The treat at the far end of the bread is the aubergine sauce. I KNOW! They think of everything.
Anyway, this may not be the best place for a first date, as it’s fast food and you will make a total mess of yourself, but for cheap and quick food, I haven’t found anything here that even comes close to the deliciousness of this place. And I have eaten a lot… Come come come!
