    Sleeping in a Cucumber Barrel

As cool as a cucumber… Well, we did it yet again. We saw the most hilarious accommodation ever and decided to visit the surrounding area because of it. Yup, you guessed it, we stayed in a pickled gherkin barrel (Gurkenfass) in the Spreewald, a UNESCO area just one hour south of Berlin by car. I have to say I was a bit apprehensive of four people squashing together in one of these little vessels and when the owner suggested we take two huts we nearly caved in, but it’s an adventure and I thought it would be a giggle with Jason and I on the bottom and my brother and his…

    AirBnB Professional Photos

Click Click Click… We have been super popular on AirBnB recently and we used it all over America. It’s so much better than staying in a boring hotel room – you get to meet locals and stay in a place that feels like home. In New York we learnt that apartments and rooms are tiny, in New Orleans we stayed in a multi-coloured house. It was beautiful! Our first ever AirBnB guests

I feel good… We knew from the moment we saw their happy smiling faces that it was going to be fun meeting Tony and Wilma. From their message that read “We’re on a four-month European trip for our 40th wedding anniversary…” we knew they would be the perfect first guests for us. We were definitely a little nervous, but mostly just excited and happy that someone had picked our apartment over all the others. We have guests all the time. The first two months we were in Berlin we had four days without guests. Yup – you read that correctly. Some days one group would leave in the morning and…

    Our first AirBnB guests!

I wanna go home… We only put our spare room on AirBnB two weeks ago and our first guests arrive tomorrow! I have to say we are a little nervous – will they like the place and review us well? Will we get on? Will we make some new friends in the process? It’s all very exciting too. We spent this evening cleaning and making everything absolutely perfect. I have to admit I have never ironed pillowcases before and our place is sparkling! If you haven’t heard of AirBnB before, you need to get involved. Staying at hotels is so last decade… now you can stay with people in their…
