    Happy Monday: Tea

What better way is there to enjoy this Happy Monday than with a cup of tea? Actually, Tea is the subject of this week’s Happy Monday – what a marvellous drink you are, Tea! There is definitely a stereotype out there that British people are obsessed with their tea and I have to admit that there is truth in that. It has long been a part of our culture and often used as a cure to any and all ailments. Let me give you a few examples: Feeling a bit cold? – Warm yourself up with a cup of tea. Down in the dumps? – Cheer yourself up with a…

The Gipsy Kings come to Berlin

Volare Oh yes. This happened. We use Spotify to entertain our musical needs and those kind people there sent us a message: ‘The Gipsy Kings are coming to Berlin’. If that’s not a sign, I’m not sure what is. So, obviously we nabbed us some tickets immediately. I have always loved their music, as did my mother. I listen to them a lot, so to get to see them live was such a treat! We saw it as a late Valentine’s Day present to ourselves. And luckily this time it wasn’t in the enormous 02 Arena, in fact we were able to walk there. The Huxley’s Neue Welt is a…

Working on those New Year's Resolutions…

I push the needle through In hopes of finding something beautiful Felt the lines go through the wool Felt them give and push and pull Well, it’s already the middle of February, so it’s high time I started working on those New Year’s Resolutions. One of my plans was to learn to crochet, so today we went out and bought a hook. I got some sea-coloured yarn and now I guess it’s just a matter of looking up YouTube videos and teaching myself. It can’t be that hard, right? I can just about knit a scarf and blanket, so I’m hopeful. I will let you know how it goes –…

    Happy Valentine's Day!

Love is all around… It’s that one special day of the year. It’s a bit of a Marmite situation, you either love it or you loathe it. I will just say that for me, it’s a normal day. I don’t know what is particularly romantic about a day in February. It’s dark, cold and often rainy. If you are single, you are made to feel like you should hide away. If you are in a relationship, you are forced to buy presents and go on a romantic dinner date. It doesn’t feel natural and judging by the faces of the people in the restaurant, most of the time they too…

    Epic phone case

Somebody answer the phone… Yes, that is my phone case. Beautiful isn’t it? I wanted it the minute I saw it. My old case was the Union Jack (of course) but it was breaking on the sides, so it was time for a change. And Jason somehow managed to buy it without me even noticing and gave it to me as a present. I still don’t know how he did it, as I have the ability to read his mind… but I digress… Rittersport is delicious. It’s a German company and their many flavours have made it all around the world. In Berlin, they have an entire shop where you…

    Best location for cheesecake

Om nom nom nom nom… It’s another cheesecake post! And this one is partly being blogged about for it’s taste and partly for it’s amazing surroundings. Our favourite bookstore in Berlin is Dussmann. It is centrally located and not only has a section full of boardgames but also a whole bookstore inside devoted to English books. Plus it’s usually open until midnight and in the winter it’s lovely and warm. Then if you go downstairs, there are free toilets (always good to know where to find these in Berlin) and a café. The walls of the café are alive! They have planted greenery that grows up the walls. The water…

    A sausage fest

So many sausages, so little time… Okay, this post may not be about what you are thinking. Maybe I should have written a sausage festIVAL, but it’s hard to resist a little naughtiness here and there. Anyhoo… to the sausages! We found out about an event that was advertised as: Sausage and Beer Festival. Without even thinking about it we started telling our friends about it and a few hours later a group of us we were in Markthalle Neun (which also has possibly the best cheesecake every Thursday evening in Berlin). I have to be honest with you all here. One of the reasons we moved to Berlin are…

    Coco the dog

How much is that doggy in the window? Jason’s been working hard and I received three jobs offers in one day last week, so we have been quite busy recently. Also, we heard there is a homemade sausage festival on today around the corner, so there is no time to write you all a long blog post (sorry). We love you all, but sausages are calling… Do not worry though, we are keeping up our NaBloPoMo promise to you. So here is our daily post: a photo of Coco, Jason’s family’s dog. He is a right cutie and we thought you would like to have a look!

    It's all about the fish…

I thought it would be fun to do another writing challenge. You get a choice of photo and you write about it. So here goes: Swallowed in the sea It had always been her dream. Move away to the coast. We would watch for signs of life in the spring. We could go for walks on the sand in the summer. In the autumn we would have barbecues with melted marshmallows. In the winter, we would get waterproof boots and clamber over the rocks. We would kiss under the stars at night. There would be so many stars by the sea. Life wouldn’t be so busy. People wouldn’t be so stressed.…
